The inspiration for this piece came from my brother. In 2009, he was diagnosed with a glioma brain tumor. This news was obviously very difficult to hear, but he has managed to stay positive and channel his energy to a cause much greater than himself. The sunflower represents an organization called Prayers From Maria, a foundation dear to my brother and my family. The founders lost thier 6-year old daughter Maria to a glioma in 2006 and have dedicated thier lives to raising funds for juvenile brain tumor research. Check out their website for more information: http://www.prayersfrommaria.org
